The Maes Hughes Center for Academic and Military Excellence is one of the most prestigious military universities in all Amestris, and to a greater extent, the world. With a campus rooted deep within East City, its primary fields of education are military officership and politics, continually churning out revolutionary parliamentary members and stalwart military leaders. A great, hundred-foot tall statue of Brigadier General Hughes, whom it was named for, lies in its main courtyard.

East City
East City is a highly industrial part of Amestris, owning many workshops, automail fitters, and factories. It is largely considered to be one of the most culturally rich cities in Amestris, as well, and makes an exhilarating tourist attraction, as many people from all walks of life converge daily to go about their business - everybody ranging from automail technicians to local chefs, and the occasional celebrity.
